Yawuru Nagulagun / Roebuck Bay Marine Park, located near Broome in Western Australia, is a Ramsar Wetland of International Significance, recognized for its vital role as a feeding ground for migratory shorebirds. The park encompasses intertidal flats, mangroves, and subtidal fringes, providing a rich habitat for diverse marine life. Visitors can engage in activities such as boating, fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. Notably, during low tides, the park reveals prehistoric dinosaur footprints, offering a unique glimpse into ancient history. The area is jointly managed with the Yawuru traditional owners, reflecting a deep cultural connection to the land and sea. Safety precautions are essential due to the presence of box jellyfish and estuarine crocodiles in the waters, as well as strong tidal currents and occasional cyclones. It's advisable to consult the Parks and Wildlife West Kimberley District Office for safety information before visiting. The Broome Bird Observatory, situated within the park, offers opportunities to observe vast numbers of migratory shorebirds, especially from September through April. Entry to the park is free, and while there are no facilities like picnic tables or parking, visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural environment.
