Westgate Park
Port Melbourne, Melbourne, VIC
4 Wharf Rd, Port Melbourne, VIC 3207
Westgate Park is an incredible example of successful revegetation, transforming an industrial wasteland into a thriving, biodiverse parkland. The park is most famous for its large salt lake, which, under the right conditions of high temperatures and low rainfall, turns a spectacular shade of pink due to a natural algae. Beyond the pink lake, the park features a network of freshwater and saltwater wetlands and has been planted with tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs. An extensive network of trails makes it a popular spot for walking and cycling, with surprising views of the city and the iconic bridge. The park has designated off-leash areas for dogs. Entry is free.
