St Columba Falls State Reserve
Pyengana, St Helens, TAS
Pyengana Road, Pyengana TAS 7216

St Columba Falls State Reserve is renowned for its stunning 90-meter waterfall, one of Tasmania's tallest, cascading from the foothills of Mount Victoria into the South George River valley. The reserve is approximately a 30-minute drive from St Helens, accessible via the Tasman Highway (A3) and then road C428 from Pyengana. Visitors can enjoy a 20-30 minute return walk through cool, shady rainforest featuring towering tree ferns, sassafras, beech, and myrtle. The track is well-maintained and suitable for most ages, leading to a viewing platform at the base of the falls. A picnic area with views of the falls is also available for visitors. The area is known for its rich biodiversity, including the elusive platypus, which can sometimes be spotted along the creek's banks. The reserve is in a moderately high rainfall area, so it's advisable to check the weather forecast before visiting and dress accordingly. As of June 2025, the reserve is closed for maintenance and is expected to reopen before the summer season of 2025/2026. In the meantime, visitors are encouraged to explore nearby attractions such as Halls Falls and the walks at Poimena. For more information, contact sthelensparks@parks.tas.gov.au.
