Rushworth State Forest, which includes parts of the Heathcote-Graytown National Park, is a vast area of box-ironbark woodland that is steeped in history. The forest is a fantastic place for prospecting and exploring the relics of the 19th-century gold rush. A highlight is the Whroo Historic Area, which features an Aboriginal rock well, an old cemetery, and the remains of a gold mining settlement. The forest is also renowned for its spectacular wildflower displays in spring and is an important habitat for woodland birds. Numerous tracks make it suitable for walking, cycling, and scenic driving. Dogs are permitted on-leash. Entry is free.
