Princes Park is a major destination for fitness and recreation in Melbourne. It is best known for 'The Tan of the North', a 3.2km gravel running track that encircles the park and is constantly in use. The park is home to the Princes Park Carlton Football Ground, as well as numerous other sports ovals. It features magnificent avenues of elm and Moreton Bay Fig trees, providing ample shade. The park also has playgrounds, including the innovative Nature Play playground, and several picnic and barbecue areas. It has large designated off-leash areas, making it very popular with dog owners. On-street parking can be limited. Entry is free.
