Peron Peninsula Nature Reserve, encompassing Francois Peron National Park, is a coastal reserve in Western Australia renowned for its rich marine life and diverse landscapes. Located approximately 4 kilometers north-east of Denham, the park spans over 52,500 hectares and is part of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. The reserve is accessible via Monkey Mia Road, with the Peron Heritage Precinct being two-wheel drive accessible, while other areas require high-clearance four-wheel drive vehicles. Visitors can enjoy activities such as bushwalking, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming. The park features several campgrounds, including the Big Lagoon camping and day-use area, which offers well-spaced campsites, sheltered decking, toilets, and barbecue facilities near the shoreline. The Peron Heritage Precinct provides insights into the area's pastoral history, with the old overseer's quarters converted into a display for visitors. The artesian bore at the homestead, drilled in 1922-1923, offers a unique 'hot tub' experience, with emus and other birds often seen drinking from the overflow. Entry fees apply, and it's advisable to check the latest information before visiting. Please note that pets are not permitted in the park.
