Murchison River Nature Reserve is a remote and rugged area located within Kalbarri National Park in Western Australia. The reserve is renowned for its unique geological formations, including the iconic Nature's Window—a wind-eroded opening in layered sandstone that frames a view of the Murchison River gorge. Visitors can embark on the 1 km return Nature's Window walk, which offers panoramic views of the gorge and river. For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the 9 km Loop Trail provides a comprehensive exploration of the gorge's diverse landscapes. The reserve is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, including ancient plant species and unique wildlife. Facilities within the reserve include picnic tables and parking areas, though amenities such as barbecues and playgrounds are not available. Dogs are not permitted in the park. Please note that entry fees apply for Kalbarri National Park, and visitors should ensure they carry sufficient water, as drinking water is not supplied in the park. The reserve remains open throughout the year, but temperatures can be extremely hot between December and April, with the gorges being up to 10°C hotter than the town of Kalbarri. It's advisable to plan visits during the cooler months and to check for any park alerts before arrival.
