Mount Field National Park, established in 1916, is one of Tasmania's oldest and most diverse national parks. Located approximately 64 kilometers northwest of Hobart, the park spans over 15,800 hectares and is renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Visitors can explore lush rainforests, alpine meadows, and iconic waterfalls, including the state's first nature reserve, Russell Falls.
The park offers a variety of walking tracks suitable for all levels, from the easy 1.4 km return walk to Russell Falls to the challenging 17 km return trek to Mount Field West. For those interested in winter sports, Mount Mawson provides skiing and snowboarding opportunities during the colder months. Camping facilities are available at the Mount Field Campground, which offers powered and unpowered sites, as well as amenities like hot showers and electric barbecues. The campground is situated near the Visitor Centre, providing easy access to park facilities and information. The park is also home to a Discovery Ranger program, offering free activities and guided walks during the summer months.
