Lake Wendouree is the jewel in Ballarat's crown. This historic man-made lake was the site of the 1956 Olympic rowing events. The lake foreshore is lined with beautiful, historic boathouses and is adjacent to the magnificent Ballarat Botanical Gardens. The lake itself is a significant wetland, home to a huge population of swans and other waterbirds. The area has numerous playgrounds, picnic and barbecue facilities, and cafes.
