John Forrest National Park, established in 1900, is Western Australia's first and oldest national park, located approximately 30 minutes east of Perth. The park offers a variety of attractions, including scenic picnic areas, walking and cycling trails, historic sites, and abundant wildlife. Visitors can enjoy picnicking and barbecuing in designated areas, with accessible facilities available. The park features several walking trails, such as the 16 km Eagle View Walk, which provides panoramic views of the Swan Coastal Plain and Perth city. The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, a 41 km loop, follows the route of the old Eastern Railway, passing through quaint hills communities. The park is also home to two waterfalls, National Park Falls and Hovea Falls, which are best viewed during winter and spring. The Swan View Tunnel, the only historical railway tunnel in WA that you can walk through, is another notable feature. The park is rich in native flora and fauna, including jarrah, marri, and flooded gum trees, and is home to western grey kangaroos. Entry fees apply, and dogs are not permitted in the park.
