Hartz Mountains National Park, located approximately 85 km south of Hobart and 21 km south-west of Geeveston, is renowned for its rugged alpine landscapes, glacial lakes, and diverse ecosystems. The park is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, encompassing unique alpine plant species found nowhere else on Earth. Visitors can explore several walking tracks, including the 7.4 km return Hartz Peak track, offering panoramic views of the south-west wilderness, and the 3.4 km return Lake Esperance track, showcasing the park's rich biodiversity. The park is accessible via Hartz Mountain Road, a 10.5 km unsealed road from Geeveston. A valid parks pass is required for entry, and facilities include picnic tables and parking. Dogs are not permitted, and camping is not allowed. Visitors should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and ensure they have suitable clothing and navigation skills for alpine walks.
