French Island National Park

French Island National Park covers two-thirds of the sparsely populated French Island. Accessible only by passenger ferry, the island has no sealed roads and offers a peaceful escape from the modern world. The park is a haven for wildlife, including a significant koala population, and is renowned for its diverse birdlife, especially in the coastal saltmarsh areas. Visitors can explore the park's sandy tracks on foot or by mountain bike. Camping is available at the Fairhaven campground. Visitors must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own food and water. As a national park and to protect its disease-free koala population, dogs are not permitted. Entry is free.
