Fairy Glade State Reserve, located on the north-west corner of the Tasman Peninsula, is a tranquil coastal retreat known for its secluded beaches, shady nooks, and rich convict history. The reserve encompasses 1,300 hectares of sheltered beaches and dry coastal woodlands, providing a serene environment for visitors seeking relaxation and exploration.

The shoreline alternates between rocky sandstone bluffs and calm, sandy beaches, supporting large populations of shorebirds. The reserve is adjacent to the Port Arthur Historic Site, a World Heritage-listed convict site, offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance.

Visitors can enjoy various activities such as walking along the secluded beaches, kayaking in the bay, or fishing from a dinghy. The reserve also features a campground suitable for families and those seeking a peaceful retreat. While the facilities are basic, the natural surroundings compensate with their beauty and tranquility.

Access to the reserve is via the Arthur Highway (A3) to Sorell, then right onto the Arthur Highway (A9) through Taranna on the Tasman Peninsula. After 9 km, turn right onto Saltwater River Road (C341), follow signs for Saltwater River and the Coal Mines Historic Site, then right onto Coal Mines Road, which becomes unpaved for the final 6.5 km to the campground. Visitors are advised to avoid driving in the reserve at night due to native wildlife on the roads.

Please note that campfires are only permitted at designated campgrounds within designated fireplaces and are prohibited during seasonal fire bans. Pets are not permitted within the reserve. For more information, refer to the Parks & Wildlife Service Tasmania's guidelines on visiting the reserve.
