Tunnel Creek Road, Tunnel Creek WA 6728

Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) National Park, located approximately 110 kilometers northwest of Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia's Kimberley region, is renowned for its 750-meter limestone tunnel carved over millions of years. This natural wonder, up to 20 meters high and 15 meters wide in parts, was once part of an ocean reef system 350 million years ago. The tunnel offers a unique walking experience, allowing visitors to traverse from one side of the Napier Range to the other. Along the way, explorers can encounter various bat species and freshwater crocodiles inhabiting the cave. The park also holds significant cultural importance, having been used as a hideout by the Aboriginal leader Jandamarra in the late 19th century. Access to the park requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's generally inaccessible during the wet season. Visitors are advised to take a torch, wear appropriate footwear, and be prepared to wade through water. Entry fees apply, with standard vehicle entry at $17.00 per vehicle. Dogs and other pets are not permitted in the park. For more information, contact the Broome Parks and Wildlife Office at (08) 9195 5500.
