Craigieburn, Melbourne, VIC
315-405 Donnybrook Rd, Craigieburn, VIC 3064
The Craigieburn Grassland Nature Conservation Reserve is a precious ecological site located on Melbourne's northern fringe. It protects a vast expanse of the Victorian Volcanic Plain grasslands, an ecosystem that is now critically endangered. The reserve is a sea of native grasses, such as Kangaroo Grass, and comes alive with a stunning display of wildflowers in the spring. It is a vital habitat for endangered species like the Golden Sun Moth and the Striped Legless Lizard. There are no formal visitor facilities or marked trails within the reserve to protect the fragile environment. Access is generally restricted to researchers and conservation groups, though views into the reserve are possible from the surrounding roads. Dogs are not permitted. Entry is free.
