Channel Point Coastal Reserve
Channel Point, Darwin, NT
via Dundee Beach (4WD access), Channel Point NT, Australia

Channel Point Coastal Reserve is a rugged reserve situated about 240 km south-west of Darwin, on a remote peninsula between Bynoe Harbour and the Timor Sea. Accessible only by high-clearance 4WD (or by boat), Channel Point is a coveted destination for anglers – the adjacent waters boast superb fishing for barramundi, reef fish and mud crabs. The reserve features a small campground with limited unpowered bush campsites near the beach, composting toilets, and bore water (treat before drinking). A boat ramp provides access to the harbour and nearby Perron Islands. Apart from fishing, visitors can enjoy beachcombing along the isolated sandy shoreline, birdwatching (shorebirds and birds of prey frequent the area), and spectacular sunsets over the ocean. The land and sea around Channel Point are rich with marine wildlife; turtles nest on the beaches, dugongs feed in seagrass beds offshore, and saltwater crocodiles inhabit the coastal waters – so swimming is not advised. A permit is required to visit and camp at Channel Point, with visitor numbers capped to maintain the area’s pristine condition:contentReference[oaicite:50]{index=50}:contentReference[oaicite:51]{index=51}. There are no shops or fuel – it’s strictly a "bring everything in, take everything out" experience. Channel Point Coastal Reserve offers adventurous travelers a chance to camp and fish in a truly remote Top End coastal environment, far from crowds and surrounded by nature.
