Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park
Castlemaine, Goldfields, VIC
Midland Hwy, Castlemaine, VIC 3450
Australia's first National Heritage Park, the Castlemaine Diggings covers a vast area of the central Victorian goldfields. The park is a historic treasure trove, containing relics of the 1850s gold rush scattered throughout the box-ironbark forest. Visitors can explore old mine workings, water races, and the ruins of stone buildings. The park links the historic towns of Castlemaine, Chewton, and Maldon. It's a popular area for bushwalking, cycling, and prospecting. There are numerous picnic areas throughout the park, including the popular Lake Daylesford and Vaughan Springs. Caution is advised due to the presence of uncapped mine shafts. Dogs are permitted on-leash. Entry is free.
