Bluff Knoll, Stirling Range National Park
Stirling Range, Albany, WA
Bluff Knoll Road, Stirling Range WA 6338

Bluff Knoll, standing at 1,095 meters, is the highest peak in Western Australia's Stirling Range National Park, offering hikers a challenging ascent with rewarding panoramic views from its summit. The trail begins at the Bluff Knoll parking area, where visitors can enjoy 360-degree vistas of the surrounding range. The initial section of the trail is sealed and accessible, leading to a steeper path that ascends the mountain's southern slope. Along the way, hikers traverse eucalypt woodlands, banksia, and grass trees, with exposed rock layers revealing ancient sedimentary formations. The summit provides breathtaking views over the ridge to the south coast. The trail is well-marked and spans 6.8 kilometers return, classified as Grade 4 due to its steep sections and numerous steps. For those not up to the full hike, the surrounding lookouts offer spectacular views of Bluff Knoll and other peaks of the Stirling Range. These lookouts, along with the nearby undercover picnic area and toilets, are wheelchair accessible. The picnic area features sheltered picnic tables and a barbecue, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. The area also includes unisex accessible toilets. It's important to note that pets are not permitted in the park, and visitors are advised to plan their visit carefully, considering the unpredictable weather conditions that can lead to sudden cool changes and precipitation. For safety, it's recommended to travel with a personal location beacon and to avoid entering the bush or using footpaths on days of extreme fire danger. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions undertakes 1080 baiting at this location to reduce the impacts of feral cats and foxes on native wildlife. Meat baits containing 1080 poison are laid in or around this area on an ongoing basis. 1080 is poisonous to humans and will kill domestic cats and dogs.
