Fitzroy Crossing WA 6765

Bandiln͟gan (Windjana Gorge) National Park is a captivating 3.5 km gorge that slices through the Napier Range in Western Australia's Kimberley region. This geological marvel was once an ancient coral reef, and today, it offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history and natural beauty. The gorge is home to freshwater crocodiles, which bask in the pools formed by the Lennard River during the dry season. The park is open from May to November, as roads become inaccessible during the wet season. Visitors can explore the Savannah Walk Trail, a 1.2 km loop through savannah habitat, and the Gorge Walk, a 1.9 km return trail that delves into the ancient limestone reef system. The campground near the gorge provides tent and caravan sites, equipped with flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, benches, and communal firepits. It's important to note that dogs are not permitted in the park, and swimming is discouraged due to the presence of crocodiles. The park is located 146 km north-west of Fitzroy Crossing and 144 km east of Derby, accessible via four-wheel drive vehicles. Standard park entry fees apply, and bookings for camping are essential.
