The Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area (APCA) is a 100,135-hectare reserve located on Tasmania's northwest coast, established in 1982 and reclassified in 1999. It is renowned for its rich Aboriginal cultural heritage, diverse ecosystems, and stunning coastal landscapes. The area encompasses nearly half of Tasmania's coastal migration route and several key feeding sites, making it a significant site for conservation and cultural studies. Visitors can explore various tracks, including the challenging Sandy Cape Track, which offers breathtaking coastal views and camping opportunities. The APCA is also home to several historic sites, such as remnants of the Balfour-Temma tramway and the Sandy Cape lighthouse. While the area is accessible to off-road vehicles, visitors are required to obtain an APCA Recreational Driver Pass for off-road driving. Dogs are permitted on-leash in certain areas, including campgrounds and the Sandy Cape campsite. Camping facilities include serviced sites with toilet facilities at Manuka and Peppermint campgrounds, and un-serviced sites at Nelson Bay, Stinking Beach, Prickly Wattle, and Camp Elsewhere. Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the area's natural and cultural values.
