Great Alpine Rd, Harrietville, VIC 3741
The Alpine National Park protects Victoria's highest mountain ranges, stretching from central Gippsland to the New South Wales border. It is a place of incredible natural beauty, featuring snow gum woodlands, grassy high plains, and dramatic peaks like Mount Feathertop and Mount Bogong. In summer, the park is a paradise for hikers, campers, and mountain bikers, with hundreds of kilometres of trails, including the Australian Alps Walking Track. In winter, it becomes a snow-covered wonderland for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The park contains numerous campgrounds and picnic areas, some with basic barbecue facilities and toilets. As a national park, dogs and other pets are not permitted. General entry to the park is free, however, during the official snow season, paid permits are required for vehicles entering the alpine resorts located within the park's boundaries, such as Falls Creek and Mount Hotham.
